This Guardian Spirit's skill is a devastating shockwave caused by a gigantic slam that causes standard enemies to tumble and take large amounts of damage along the way. The Atlas Bear is possibly the best risk/reward Guardian Spirit in the game as it grants the player significant buffs when they are low on Ki. Additionally, Nekomata is obtained after defeating Ryomen Sukuna in the Restoring Harmony Side Quest (recommended level 110). This cat is nothing to sleep on and should be used if you like Feral Yokai and lightning. Things like a 20% increase to Feral Yokai Ability Damage and a damage buff to throwable weapons by 5% can go a long way, especially when you start getting more potent Yokai Abilities. That aside, the Nekomata also offers some incredible bonuses that will help you out dramatically. It isn't all that useful on more formidable enemies unless you land all three traps. However, if only one mine connects, it can still provide a decent knockback on standard enemies. These can deal an extraordinary amount of lightning and Ki damage if all three connect. This cat offers a decent bunch of additional buffs that can help you out significantly in battle such as placing three lightning traps onto the battlefield. They're also adorable in their little scarf, but that's beside the point. The Nekomata is a cat Guardian Spirit with an eyepatch that can deal absurd amounts of lightning damage. The Ame-no-Mitori can be viable at any stage in the game, especially when paired with armor sets and other Guardian Spirits! Once it makes contact with the enemy, a lightning bolt will strike down from the sky, dealing a mass amount of lightning damage along with a small amount of physical harm that can stun enemies. The Guardian Spirit's ability allows Ame-no-Mitori to fly out in front of the player, searching for a target.
But what makes the Ame-no-Mitori a viable choice in the late game is its Guardian Spirit ability. In addition to that, there aren't many lightning-resistant enemies in the game's early ongoings, so you will do a lot of damage. You will get Elixirs thanks to the Divine Rice drops in the early game that help you tremendously. Additionally, if you do not choose Ame-no-Mitori at the start of the game, you can obtain the Guardian Spirit by completing the Shrine of Oaths Side Quest (recommended level 43) or the Point of No Return Side Quest (recommended level 52). What makes the Ame-no-Mitori an incredible Guardian Spirit is its increased movement speed, Divine Rice drop rate buff, and substantial lightning damage bonus. This lightning eagle is an incredible starter who will be sustainable through a large chunk of the game and can even be useful in the endgame. Ame-no-Mitori is one of the three starting Guardian Spirits in Nioh 2 and is also the best of the three.
